I just came from a 12 days business trip to Benin; a West-African country situated west to Nigeria on the western coast of Africa. AFRICABIZ team will often and frequently focus on projects and opportunities originated from Benin, as the country stands out, nowadays, in Africa, for two main reasons:
A- It is a politically stable country:
Ballots are held on a regular frequency basis, always in peaceful atmosphere, without any controversy about the results from any single participating political party. This is very remarkable to be noticed and mentioned; when elsewhere in Africa, most elections are followed by permanent civil unrest or by a tense and lengthy period of confrontation among many political rulers.
B- Benin is the "entry-point" to a market of 150.000.000 people:
Benin
has a 1.000 kilometers border with Nigeria.
Since decades - during the colonial period, and after the independence of both
countries - strong permanent business / commercial links developed between the
business communities of Benin and Nigeria.
Nigerian businessmen used to travel
to Benin to purchase goods and services - unavailable, scarce or restricted in
Nigeria - which they pay for in the local currency: CFA.(linked to the EURO; one
US$ equal 610 to 625 CFA.).
That's why Benin's importation
statistics always show excess amount of various imported goods and commodities
in comparIson to the level of the local population: 6.000.000
Benin
is, in brief, a transit country to the huge consumer market of Nigeria: 120.000.000
inhabitants and also to other land-locked countries such as: Mali,
Burkina-Faso
and Niger.
Benin is a safe place to establish a business / company to and do business
with Nigeria. The currency (CFA) is convertible and freely
transferable. Business set-up is facilitated by a so called "guiché
unique": a single and unique office in which all registration
paper-works are performed. No need to wander in a maze of governmental offices
to establish a business / company in Benin!
A skilled
and educated working class and also management staff educated to university standard
is available at a very competitive operating cost.
These are
the reasons why AFRICABIZ will often promote
businesses projects and opportunities based in Benin.
