How To Print To Another Printer Next Door Or A Continent Away
Why someone would want printing on somebody printer a continent away? Well, suppose
you need to send urgently a memo or report to a meeting far away; you may print on the faraway printer to save time and be sure that documents are delivered in time. Sending a mail may not be so fast if internet traffic is heavy.
This is made possible thanks to an application named "PrinterAnywhere" that
assists doing the job pronto!
- How it works
You simply select File / Print menu from your application (such as Microsoft
Word) and then choose PrinterAnywhere. After clicking OK you will need to select
the remote printer to print to. Initially you would need to look for printer
owners by clicking on the button Find Printer.
- How to share
To share a printer so other people can print on it you need to install, start
and keep running the PrinterAnywhere console application. The application displays
the list of all your printers but they are not shared. Only
PrinterAnywhere is shared. By clicking on each printer you may change
its sharing status.
To use PrinterAnywhere you must be connected
to the Internet and able to browse the web using Microsoft Internet
Explorer - Yeah! Only Microsoft Explorer option
is available.
Then, you can print documents and photos on other people's printers as easily
as on the local one connected to your computer, from applications such as Microsoft
Word, Outlook, Photo Editor or any other program you work with to a printer connected
to another computer next door or ten thousand miles away (anywhere!). No special
technical knowledge is required. It just works!
- What about security?
PrinterAnywhere uses industry-standard encryption algorithms to ensure fast and
secure delivery of the electronic printing materials (not your original documents!)
to the other end. You can also control how many copies should be printed.
Unlike email, PrinterAnywhere does not allow forwarding
electronic copies of the documents to third parties. For instance, to
temper with your document, the other party cannot just change words or elements
in the document (if transmitted electronically) The other party needs to undergo
some hard work as scanning, reloading the document before changing anything.
This prevents potential misuse of the information and eliminates
possible privacy issues.
You just need
an email account to register to PrintAnywhere console, and setup an user name
to which a reference number is attached - for other users to be able to print
to your printer from anywhere in the world at large.
Unlike sending a fax, PrinterAnywhere does not require the
documents being scanned and only then transmitted. As long as the documents are in an electronic form on your computer, you can print them as usual (typically by selecting menu File - Print) on the remote printer. Scanning
paper documents locally and printing them on the other end is always a possibility
too. And, you don't need to have a fax machine and dedicated phone line.
