In the hustle and bustle of a daily business routine, proper training of the company staff is often forgotten.

By Wayne Hurlbert -

Whether the personnel requiring instruction are new hires or long time employees, good staff training is essential to business success. If an employee is unable to do the job assignments, simply as a result of not knowing how to complete the tasks at hand, the company bottom line can experience some severe damage.

It is not unusual for a new employee to be shown the desk or work station and be left to fend for herself. It is also commonplace for a long term employee to receive a promotion or new job assignment with no direction or instructions. Without proper training and guidance the employees are unable to produce good results and generate less revenue for the company. Unable to complete their assignments properly, the staff members often become frustrated and leave the job. Rinse and repeat.

Some business owners and managers take the penny wise route of skimping on saving. They also experience the pound foolish outcome of lower productivity. To cut back on training is asking for lower monetary returns. Instead of recognizing that staff training is an important investment, it is seen as a luxury expense that is one of the first places targeted for budget cuts. Lower production numbers and weakened staff morale soon follow.

Increased company revenue and improved staff productivity and morale are the most visible benefits of proper staff training. Less well known are lower accident rates on industrial sites, lower company health care costs, fewer problems with meeting government standards and regulations, and possible lower insurance and Workers Compensation premiums. At the same time, some potentially very costly and even business crippling lawsuits may be avoided by ensuring employees understand their job duties and responsibilities.

Customers and clients of your business recognize well trained staff people as well. Customer questions are answered properly and fully by employees who understand their job and their department completely. By knowing and understanding the client's needs and requirements, sales can be made where they were lost in the past.

Proper customer service training helps keep patrons happy and returning to your place of business. Reports and projects completed on time help the business to meet new challenges and opportunities, in the marketplace, quickly and with the appropriate plan in place.

Don't neglect proper employee training. It may be the most profitable investment that you can make in your company's future. Most business people state that their employees are their most important business asset. Not everyone practices what they preach, however. You can walk the talk, however, by ensuring that your staff members are trained fully in their job and its requirements.

Staff training is vital to your company's short and long term business success.

LIVESTOCK & GAME DEVELOPMENT - PART I: - INTRODUCTION TO LIVESTOCK AS COMPONENT PART TO A NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHEME

Current issue is the first of a series dealing with livestock development as an important component part of the Strategy for African Countries. Livestock's importance in developing encompasses a broad range of sectors: food security, fight against poverty, integrated land development, environmental problems. It can boost the development of other agricultural components such as cereals production and supply raw materials to other projects (animal grease, blood, fertilizer, hide and leather) included in the scheme.

- LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION DEFICIT IN AFRICAN COUNTRIES

Table below exposes Net trade in livestock products in Africa (x1000 tons) - exact figures from 1970 to 2000 and projection estimates to 2030) that shows production deficit gap.

Net trade in livestock products in Africa (x1000 tons)
  1970 1980 1990 2000 2015 2030
Beef 119 63 -32 52 -5 -109
Eggs 0 -3 -5 -17 -9 -22
Meat 142 50 -110 -80 -283 -744
Milk -913 -2,496 -1,785 -1,971 -3,605 -5,226
Mutton/goat 29 40 29 59 73 80
Pig meat -4 -9 -21 -42 -71 -108
Poultry -2 -43 -86 -149 -280 -606
Source: FAOSTAT, 2002. Note: Negative figures imply imports.

Figures listed on above table are self explanatory: Africa globally is a net importer of Beef, Milk, Eggs, Poultry and Pig meat. Only Mutton/ goat seems to cope with demand.

One has to notice, however, that these statistics dated back to year 2002 and since then the situation had worsened as livestock had been destroyed by successive droughts and devastating inundations that plagued the sub-Saharan African region.

Further, there is a dramatic meltdown of livestock genes/breeds in developing countries and particularly in Africa. [For more on the matter you may read an interesting Reuters dispatch by Robert Evans, dated September 3, 2007]

HOW TO FIND SUBTITLES TO DOWNLOADED MOVIES & VIDEO

Movies and videos which are not acted in English language are labeled"international" by Americans. There are thousands and thousands of international video / movies available for download in newsgroups and specialized websites.

- Definition:

A subtitle is the text at the bottom of the movie's player screen that translates the movie's native dialogue into another international language/ dialogue. The most frequent subtitles's extensions are the following.

agt; ass; js; jss; srt; txt; ass; rt; ssa; utf; sm; sub; vobsub

Downloaded international movies may come with integrated subtitles or only have dialogue in the movie's maker / producers native international language.

- THERE ARE WEBSITES DEDICATED TO SUBTITLES

There are websites that list subtitles to international movies - to download for free. The problem is you may need to make a lot of research to find the right subtitles for the particular international movie. First because a single site may not have all subtitles, and second movies that differ (in scenario and cast) sometimes have the same denomination and the same production year. Therefore the subtitles you downloaded may not be the right one for your specific movie.

Further, a subtitle package may display in some media player and not display at all in another. And to make things worse some people play the dirty game uploading subtitles package that have nothing to do with the referenced movie.

Thus the best practice is to download at least three different subtitles package just in case. That is not a problem as subtitles package weigh small sizes in the range of 25,000 bytes to 30,000 bytes for a movie of an hour and a half duration. Click following links [1, 2, 3] to visit websites that list good quality subtitles packages.
