- HOW TO WILLINGLY ACCEPT AN "USEFUL" ADWARE ON YOUR SYSTEM

This issue is a continuation to: Install Multiple Virtual DVDs On Your SystemSharing.

Africabiz Online advised you sometimes ago to "Beware of Freeware" because they may come packed with spyware or adware.

Nevertheless, in a previous issue we still advised you to use Daemon Tools (one of the best free software available around to create multiple virtual DVDs on a hard disk) in spite of the fact that it comes packed with a Adware / Spyware / Search Bar.

We did so because that Adware / Search Bar / Spyware is useful to manage virtual DVDs drives created with Daemon Tools.

So, if you willingly opt to keep the adware that comes packed with Daemon Tools, you need to find a way to avoid constant warning by Antivirus and AntiSpyware utilities.

AVG antivirus package is one of the best antivirus utility around. Below is a contribution by Daniel Rott / AVG tech support on how to configure AVG to "ignore" Search Bar and other dynamic library links (dll) associated with a particular application.

CONFIGURE YOUR AVG PACKAGE TO IGNORE A SPECIFIC FILE / FOLDER WHEN PERFORMING A VIRUS SCANNING

1- Open the AVG Control Center, right-click the Resident Shield component and select "Properties". Switch to the "Excludes" tab and click the button "Edit Excludes". Click the "Add Path" button and browse to the desired directory you want to exclude from the resident shield protection. Click OK, close the Resident Shield properties window, close AVG Control Center. Now reboot the computer to save the changes.

2- To exclude a directory from being scanned during an anti-virus test, please do the following: Open AVG Test Center, open the Test Manager (by pressing the F5 key), edit existing user test with the "Edit" button or create a new test with the "Add" button. On the "Objects to scan" select "User defined path" option.

3- Click the "Add Folder" button, select the "Local hard drives" option and click "OK". All local hard drives will be added to the test, including their subdirectories. Now click the "Add Folder" button again, browse to the desired folder you want to exclude from scanning, select it and click "OK". Now select the path in the "Objects to scan" list, click the "Edit Path" button and select the "Exclude" option. The selected path now will be excluded from scanning including its subdirectories (if selected).

4- However, the "Complete Test" cannot be edited this way and the path you want to ignore will still be included in this test. By default, the "Complete Test" is scheduled to run every day. Please open the "Scheduled Tasks" window (by pressing the F7 key), select the "Test plan in basic mode" and click the "Edit Schedule" button. Uncheck the option "Periodically start scheduled antivirus test" option and click OK. If you would like to, you can schedule your user defined test to run by clicking the "New Schedule" button, selecting your user defined test and setting the desired time for the new schedule on the "Perform Task" tab.

Daniel Rott / AVG Technical Support.

If you find that all said above is too much trouble and you have few bucks to spare, do not hesitate and opt for Alcohol 52% that creates Virtual Drives on the fly without hassle and do not install adware. Click here to visit Alcohol 52% website

- SEARCHING FOR THE BEST SOFTPHONE AROUND? OPT FOR SJPHONE

Everyone is trying to lower, at the most minimal level, telephone / communication's costs. Thanks to the Internet, that is now possible. Only those not yet aware are still "supporting" the classic TelComs outrageous pricing.

Now Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is mature and sound had the quality of classic land line phone. You can use PC-to-PC- Internet telephones like Microsoft Messenger, Yahoo! Video Voice and Mail, Google Talk and the likes to have peer to peer communications with respondents a continent apart; or you make PC-to-Phone's calls to anywhere in the world at large.

There are plenty of service providers and prices are slashed month after month. However, it is always good to have many VoIP providers to benefit from their peculiarities. Some providers service better a particular continent and have poor sound and connection time with another one. It is up to you to find out the one to use for a particular destination.

But, when you do opt for a string of VoIP / Internet telephony service providers, you would end up having up to ten clients sitting in your start tray. To avoid the resulting jam in your in-tray, there is now a solution: that is to Install a softphone, which allows for the creation of multiple accounts on a single platform.

Currently, as far as I know, there are only two systems that perform well for sound quality and quick connectivity time: EyeBeam / X-ten by CounterPath.com and SJphone by Sjlabs.com

X-ten PRO and EyeBeam are software - that is you would shed off 50 to 60 bucks to get a single license that allow you to configure up to 10 VoIP / Internet Telephony providers on a single platform.

SJphone is a freeware that does the same and more. You need to register - for free - with sjlabs.com to remove the annoying advertisement from the platform.

- EyeBeam / X-Ten PRO or SJphone alone cannot make VoIP / PC-to-PC or PC-to Phone calls. You need to register with Internet Telephone Service's providers to use EyeBeam / X-ten PRO or SJphone

IconnectHere, Stanaphone, LunaPhone. Etc. VoIP / Internet Telephony providers are now swarming in the World Wilde Web.
