CHECK FOR SECURITY LEAKS ON YOUR SYSTEM Several
deliveries about Security [24,
27] exist in Africabiz Online's
archive. It is an important matter for any one who cares for his hard work. If
you are not using your computer just for mail exchanges with mom or dad, you better
consider security seriously. Otherwise, you might find yourself one day with your
computer down and your works gone for ever. Not to forget the risk of sensitive
data stolen by invisible intruders..
Virus
scanning alone is no more enough to be safe. There are trojans
and other "monsters" surfing the net waiting to penetrate the unsecured
system. Chance is you will be targeted even if you lock everything; particularly
if you have Broadband. Never feel safe and assured you cannot be the victim.
As long as you run Microsoft products on your computer you may be a victim one
day.
To minimize the risk you need - in addition to installing a Sentinel against Spyware, Virus Scanner and a FireWall - you need to check from time to time
security leaks on your system.
You may use Microsoft Baseline
Security Analyzer - MBSA - to do the job.
Version 2.1 the latest
release of MBSA includes a graphical and command-line interface that can perform
local or remote scans of Windows systems. MBSA runs on Windows 2000 and Windows
XP systems and will scan for common misconfigurations in the following products:
Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0
and 5.0, SQL Server 7.0 and 2000, Internet Explorer 5.01 and later and Office
2000 and 2002. MBSA will also scan for missing security updates for the following
products: Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, IIS 4.0 and 5.0, SQL Server
7.0 and 2000, IE 5.01 and later.
