FACTORS THAT SLOW DOWN YOUR COMPUTER
Over
time, whatever may be the RAM capacity and CPU value
of your computer, you will start experiencing loss of
speediness to loading file, applications and even Windows
operating system.
Many factors combine to giving that loss of speediness.
They are:
1- FRAGMENTATION OF THE HARD DISK:

When
you compose messages with your mail system; letters
with your editor or download files and delete
all these various undertakings, most of the files

disk. The more you compose and delete, load etc.
your various files are no more bound "together";
and when you load a specific file you may find

Windows
Registry is the brain of the operating system.
The coordination center for the smooth loading
and operation of the several applications you
installed on your system.
When you start Windows, some applications are
automatically loaded, which icons may appear in
the system tray. Many others are loaded without
showing any icon in the system tray.
After many install and uninstall, the Registry
is full of hundred to thousand of "obsolete"
entries and information, which are the remains
of uninstalled applications. And the Registry
will continue checking and pointing at these remains
each time you load the operating system.
The checking and pointing time to the false entries
is responsible for the loss of speediness you
may experience. The remains and false entries
slow down your system, cause crashes, and interfere
with other programs.

HOW TO OPTIMIZE WINDOWS REGISTRY WITHOUT FALLING INTO
TROUBLE
There
are many solutions available to removing the false entries
and obsolete files clogging the Registry:
1- MANUAL REMOVAL:

Windows
has a built in tool called REGEDIT that
allows you to "tamper" with the
registry as follows. a- START; b- RUN; c- Type
REGEDIT to reach the Registry folder to make
changes, tweaks, and other little adjustments.
This way of performing is valid for Windows 95
and 98.
You can also manually optimize your registry if
you are running Windows 98. To do so, just type:
SCANREG / OPT at the DOS prompt. This compacts
the Registry down and optimize its performance.

WARNING: The Registry being the "brain" of
Windows as above explained, any bad handling of the
Registry can do a final and deadly blow to Windows,
which may start acting in a very funny way; and stop
loading altogether. Manual optimizing of the Registry
is not for the common user of Windows. It is better

listed.
