Still on AFRICABIZ
promotional board is the vegetable oil production factory
in Benin to produce mainly
Shea Butter and the cosmetic
product (with outstanding ROI) based on shea butter. THE
BLUE GOLD In this issue we are bringing
forward another profit making opportunity: aqua culture of prawns and fish.
Fish is a common diet in Africa; the local production - from sea, rivers
and lakes fishing - is no sufficient to cover demands and huge quantities of fish
- frozen, dried, smoked, salted - are imported by most sub-Saharan African countries
particularly the landlocked ones. Some African countries with coastline
are involved in prawns harvesting and exporting to Europe and Southeast Asia.
However all over the whole Africa continent, there is no aqua culture
business organized on an industrialist basis to produce fish, shrimps and prawns
for local consumption and for exportation. This is really astonishing when
one knows that aqua culture - if well planned and organized - is a cash crop industry
which offers very high return in a very short span of time. There are
three kinds of aqua culture farming: intensive, semi-intensive and extensive.
For instance, semi extensive aqua culture farming for prawns is the widely
spread method which yields up to 2.5 to 3 metric tons of prawns per harvesting
cycle (which is 4/5 months) per hectare of farming-pond; with a selling price
per ton of US $ 10,000 (actual prevailing rates) you can see easily that this
is another business opportunity not to be missed! It is nicknamed: "THE
BLUE GOLD". The following table gives an idea about such
an investment in tiger prawn farming:
