TROPICAL FRUIT INDUSTRY AS INCOME BUILDING POWER FOR AN AFRICAN COMMUNITY / PART III: PASSIONFRUIT PROCESSING PLANT TO PRODUCING JUICE CONCENTRATE

The demand for passionfruit juice on the marketplace being higher than the offer, there is an opportunity for any African country to entering the very lucrative worldwide tropical fruit juice's industry through the development of Passionfruit's plantations and processing units.

A plantation of 500 hectares of passionfruit will necessitate investments in the range of US $ 2,090,000 to producing 7,500 metric tons of passionfruit. For a revenue of US$ 585,000 per year which fully covers operational expenses in the range of US $ 450,000. For more on the matter click here.

The total investment needed for the setup of a processing plant to transform 7,500 metric tons of passionfruit to 529 metric ton of passionfruit concentrate at 32° Brix; plus 1,725 metric tons of passionfruit syrup for carbonated soft drink is about US $ 2,450,000.00.

Passionfruit concentrate fetch very high price on the international marketplace of fruit juice; as it is an excellent blender to other kinds of fruit juice (orange, pineapple an so on). A good quality product at 32° Brix can reach up to US $ 6,000.00 per metric ton.

A conservative estimate of the revenues generated by the processing plant - with selling price of concentrate set at 58% of "normal" price for 32° Brix passionfruit concentrate as above outlined; that is to say 3,500 per metric ton give us a total revenue of US$ 3,611,500.00 when the operating expenses stand at only US $ 965,000.
